Witch’s Coven

Creating a witchy dinner party doesn’t have to mean buying a million Halloween decorations. For my coven night, I wanted a dark, candlelit atmosphere with a little apothecary magic. Here’s how I pulled it together, plus some DIY ideas if you want to recreate the look!

Setting the Scene

Candles, candles, candles. I pulled out practically every candle I own to create the mood lighting. The more layers of candlelight, the better!

Black tablecloth. I used a black tablecloth to create a dark foundation for the table. Check HomeGoods for seasonal finds or look on Amazon.

Black plates. Mine were from Daiso for around $5 per plate, but you can also check Five Below for budget-friendly options.

Silver accents. I paired the black plates with silver chargers, silverware, and a silver candelabra. The silver adds a little gothic elegance and makes the whole table feel more intentional.

DIY Witchcraft & Crafts

If you have extra time, Pinterest is full of inspiration for little details that make the night feel magical. Here are a few things I made!

🧪 DIY Potions

I mixed water, baby oil, food coloring, and glitter to create colorful little potions. You can experiment with different combinations, bottles, and colors to make each one unique. I labeled all the ingredients so everyone could mix and match their own creations.

Note: These are decorative potions only, not for drinking!

🌿 Mini Apothecary

I ordered a beginner’s apothecary herb set from Etsy (35-piece beginner herb set) and transferred the herbs into little bottles I found at Five Below. Such an easy way to create that old-world witch’s cabinet look without spending a fortune.

📜 Vintage Spell Papers

For the spells and labels, I soaked paper in tea to give it an aged, parchment-like look, then used a calligraphy pen to write everything out. This was one of my favorite details because it made even the smallest pieces of decor feel special.

🪵 DIY Pentagram

I collected sticks from outside and used hot glue to assemble a pentagram. Natural materials are a great way to add a rustic, woodland-witch feel to your decor.

🧹 A Witch’s Broom

I picked up a cinnamon broom from Trader Joe’s and attached it to a larger stick I collected outside to create my own witch’s broom. It was a simple DIY that made a great decorative prop!

My Biggest Tip: Focus on the Atmosphere

If I were doing it again, I’d spend less money on random little trinkets and more time creating atmosphere. Drape black, wispy spiderwebs around the room, dim the lights, and build up your candlelit centerpiece. A few thoughtful details go a long way when the whole room feels like a witch’s hideaway.

You don’t need to buy everything to make the night magical. Collect things from nature, repurpose what you already own, and have fun making the little details yourself. The best part is creating an experience your friends will remember long after the candles burn out. 🕯️
